FAQS

Below are common questions folks have. Please reach out if you need additional information.

HOW LONG IS A TYPICAL THERAPY SESSION?

Sessions are 50 minutes in length, which is standard for therapy. Extended length sessions (80 minutes) are also available, though scheduling options for these are more limited.

DO YOU USE FREUDIAN OR JUNGIAN ANALYSIS TECHNIQUES?

Some of the techniques I use incorporate Freudian and Jungian approaches. However, I am not a traditional psychoanalyst who solely offers these modalities. Instead, I offer integrationist psychological services.

DO YOU OFFER SLIDING SCALE RATES?

I offer a limited number of slots for clients being seen at sliding scale rates. These slots are reserved for those in extreme financial hardship. If all slots are full, you can be added to the waitlist and informed when future sliding scale openings are available.

ARE ALL SESSIONS EITHER ONLINE OR BY PHONE?

Great question! Yes, all services are provided via telehealth. This means we have sessions over video or voice call. Video call is most commonly used, though voice-only calls are an option as well (which can be helpful for those without strong or steady internet service in more rural areas).

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT IN THE 15-MINUTE CONSULT, AND IS IT REALLY FREE?

Yes, the consult service provided is free. This is mainly an opportunity for you and I to explore what brings you to therapy, some potential goals you may have, and to tell you more about my approach and style. Ultimately, this helps us both decide if we want to choose to proceed with regularly scheduled therapy sessions. It's a great opportunity to get your own questions answered as well!

CAN YOU SAY MORE ABOUT THE INTEGRATIONIST APPROACH YOU USE?

Certainly. Integrationist therapy is the zeitgeist in the field at the moment. Within my own practice, this means I will carefully pick, pull, and integrate components from a variety of approaches - based on what seems most relevant and best fitting for your current needs, goals, and style. Thus, therapy can consist of integration of approaches such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), humanistic, existential, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment (ACT), narrative, schema, and other modalities as warranted. Alternative approaches including elements of shamanic healing can also be incorporated. In sum, no one individual's therapy approach algorithm will look the same, and with meaningful and intentional purpose.

CAN YOU SHARE MORE ABOUT YOUR BACKGROUND IN PSYCHOLOGY?

I am a licensed clinical psychologist, with expertise based on over 15 years in the field of behavioral and mental health services. I completed by PhD at the University at Buffalo, SUNY, and completed my internship and residency in Portland, Oregon (Pacific University; Reed College). I have special expertise with psychological assessment, and advanced training with Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), as well as an array of empirically validated approaches. I also greatly value alternative and shamanic healing components, which I weave into treatment as fitting. My experience comes from working with individuals across inpatient, commmunity mental health, college counseling center, state hospital, group and individual private practice settings.

DO YOU PRESCRIBE MEDICATION?

At this time, Odyssey Wellness does not have medication management services available. However, referrals for such services can be provided.
